Smart HUD - FAQ and Summary

What is the Smart HUD on GGPoker.ca

Smart HUD is a free tool that all players can use to get a basic overview of another player's statistics, both at the current table and over every hand that player has played against them. Also, Players can use Smart HUD to view their statistics at a particular game type, which allows them to work on their game during offline study.

What is a HUD?

HUD stands for Heads Up Display, and is used in poker to display a range of statistics on a particular players play.

Why does GGPoker.ca have its own HUD and not just allow commercially available HUDs?

We believe in a fair playing field for all players. Why should some players get an advantage because they can afford to buy a program while others cannot? The Smart HUD is free and identical for all players, so all have access to the same information.

Is having a tool like this regarded as cheating?

No, as all players have access to Smart HUD and its statistics, this is fair for all players.

Can I opt out of Smart HUD and stop other players from seeing my data?

No, the whole ethos of Smart HUD is that it is available to all players equally. Therefore by playing on GGPoker.ca, you agree for your data to be available to other players.

Yes, click on your avatar and then profile to view your stats.

Is there a difference between what I can see when I look at my stats and what other players see when they look at mine?

Yes, although the basic stats are the same when you look at your stats, you get much more detailed information on the actions you took

Can other players see my entire gameplay stats?

No, they can only see stats for the hands you played in this session. Not your entire gameplay.

What is the number next to my name?

This is part of the Smart HUD stats, the stat for VPIP, which stands for Voluntary Put-In Pot. This indicates how often the player voluntarily puts money into the pot. The higher the number, the more often the player contributes to pots and thus plays hands. It is calculated as follows (Number of times the player voluntarily puts money in the pot preflop/total number of hands in sample) x 100

Why is there fire or ice around the number next to my name?

The outer edge of the 'Smart Icon' will illustrate a player's current run from 'Running Hot' to 'Running Cold'This is determined using the player's most recent play history and indicates recent winning or losing trends.

What are the basic stats that you can see using Smart HUD when viewing other players?

There are four basic stats. These are visible for all players as well as yourself. The higher the %, the more often a player engages in the behaviour in hands in which they are eligible to do so.

VPIP - (Voluntary Put In Pot) - How often a player puts money in the pot voluntarily (This excludes when the player is required to put money in the pot e.g. Blinds or Antes). PFR - (Pre-Flop Raise) - How often a player raises before the flop is dealt ATS -  (Attempt To Steal) - 'Stealing' in this case refers to when a player attempts to win the blinds by raising either from the Small Blind, Button or the Cut-off (seat before the button) where no player has called or raised before them.3BET - '3-Betting' is a common term in poker. This is where a player re-raises after an initial raise. This stat would also include 4-betting and 5-betting (where further raises are made in the same betting round)

Smart HUD will also show the number of hands used to calculate these stats.

How Are Smart HUD stats calculated?

VPIP (Voluntarily Put Money In the Pot) - number of times you voluntarily put money in the preflop pot / total number of hands) x 100PFR (Pre Flop Raise) - (Number of preflop raises / total number of hands) x 100ATS (Attempt to Steal)(Number of times a player has attempted to steal the blinds from that position / The number of times a player can attempt to steal the blinds from that position) x 1003BET (Raise 3-Bet) - Number of times player 3bet preflop / number of times player could 3bet preflop x 100

What will I see when I open another player's Smart HUD display?

The view will change depending on which game you select. The main differences are as follows.

Cash Games - In cash games, the Smart HUD Box shows a particular player’s recent VPIP, PFR, ATS, 3BET stats and the number of hands played, along with their personal history. Stats are based on all hands played during the session. You will also see a record of your best and worst hands vs this player.

All in or fold -The Smart HUD in AoF will show three additional items: player's total jackpot winnings, their latest jackpot hands, and their playing hand distribution.

Spin & Gold -Spin & Gold Smart HUD will show total winnings, average finishing place, biggest multiplier, the biggest prize, and the current Spin & Gold Challenge (if applicable)

Tournaments (including satellites) - Tournament Smart HUD contains a player's total tournament earnings and their last 5 tournament results.

I use a commercially available HUD on other sites. Are Smart HUD stats the same as these?

No, Smart HUD is designed for players of all skill levels to give a basic overview of your opponent's tendencies and allow players to make informed decisions. Commercially available HUDs are usually beneficial towards very mathematical-based players and provide them with an unfair advantage over players who are not mathematical or do not have access to the software.
